Step 09 - Fear of Sin

It may seem strange that Fear of Sin is Step 9 as all of the previous steps have contained an element of this. However, once one has achieved mastery of all the previous steps Fear of Sin is needed. This step is constantly fearing that some element of evil may have inadvertently crept in to one's thoughts, words or deeds, even though one has striven for perfection.

The fear spoken about here is not a negative, all-consuming worry, more an active state of mind that constantly checks and rechecks for failings. It is a positive action that offers a yardstick to every activity.
