The Ten Steps

Step 10 - Holiness

This is our penultimate goal. Beyond this there is only union with the Deity. Holiness is the constant adherence to the Godly and the constant avoidance of the negativity of the mundane. Like Separation, this does not imply cutting oneself off from society. Judaism has always frowned on those people who avoid temptation by cutting themselves off from it. This is seen as a negative path as the "hermit" is not actively striving for perfection but passively hoping perfection will arrive. The Jew and the kabbalist are both required to participate actively in society. It is the nature of that participation that sets apart the sinner from the saint.
