The Basics - Part 1

Introduction

01.01 To fully understand kabbalah and to be able to practice kabbalistic magic the first requirement is that you have a clear picture of the cosmological framework within which you, the kabbalist, operates. This Part and the following 6 are designed to give you a broad overview of this cosmology.

01.02 The basic tenet of Judaism, and hence of kabbalah, is that there is one, and only one, creator God. There is no pantheon of gods and goddesses - there is just one God. Any apparent evidence to the contrary is because you as perceiver are not able to clearly see the inherent unity exhibited in all of creation (i.e. Mars, as god of war, has no real existence. It is only a manifestation of the warlike aspects of the One God).

01.03 God existed before the physical universe was created. He (I am using the male pronoun for convenience - God is beyond any concept of gender) had no need to create the universe. Creation was an act of giving on the part of God.

01.04 Within the created universe humanity has a special place and a special purpose. Mankind is the only species that has free will.

01.05 The result of humanity's uniqueness is that you have responsibilities that other creatures - both physical and spiritual - do not have.

01.06 There are created realms that are not ordinarily perceptible to mankind. These are the spiritual realms. These realms are inhabited by beings commonly known as angels, archangels and spirits. There is a close, but usually unrecognised relationship, between these spiritual entities and man.

01.07 This is just a very brief overview of the kabbalistic cosmos. All of the above will be explained in greater detail in subsequent Parts.
