The Four QuartersPart 101.01 This section considers the physical world in which we live and its spiritual correspondences. 01.02 Many books on practical kabbalistic magic start with a consideration of the four compass points, or four quarters. A common exercise is The Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram. However, the attributions usually found in this ritual are in fact not those of classical kabbalah. It is reasonable to assume that what we are presented with today is a corruption of the kabbalistic original. 01.03 An appreciation of the four quarters is important as they define the physical space in which we exist. By looking at their spiritual counterparts we can begin to recognise and reinforce the links which exist between the physical and the spiritual worlds. 01.04 The four quarters are North, South, East and West. Each of these quarters has associated with it (amongst other things) one of the four classical elements and an archangel. 01.05 The kabbalistic attributes are:
01.06 These attributes are contained in a common Jewish prayer and are also referred to in such fundamental texts as The Zohar and The Bahir. 01.07 As these attributes become part of our everyday life we begin to recognise that we exist in a kabbalistic universe. |
